That was fun. Not what I expected, but then again these parties are never what I'm expecting. The place was too beautiful (green in the middle of a piece of exotic desert land) and the crowd so beautiful so exotic as well. I saw people rocking at all times. For me, it was around the beginning and towards the end when the music rocked the most. So yeah, THANK YOU for that Psytribe.

Was anyone else saddened by the state of that beautiful ranch? Beer cans, glass bottles, everything strewn all over the dance floor and surrounding areas. I loved the gathering, but felt deeply embarrased by the lack of awareness of the majority of the Into the Wild attendees about not throwing their garbage on the floor!

Safety 1st

Well summer is in full swing, and with it comes travel, events, meeting new friends and having just a ton of fun!

However, it's no fun should something bad happen, but by taking the time to just add a few precautions one can often make a bad situation from becoming a horrible one, or avoid it all together.

Here are a few tips one might want to consider:

1. If you are using a stove or generator, have a fire extinguisher. It's a good idea to have one in your trunk anyway, and they are not that expensive.

2. 1st aid kit. It's doesn't have to be huge, but if your organizing a big camp you may want to have one that's stocked accordingly.

3. Fill out an emergency contact card and keep it with you. There are people whom I love and adore, but I don't even know their real name let alone who to contact if something terrible were to happen. Even just a piece of paper saying "I'm so-in-so, please contact what's-his-face if I'm in trouble".

4. Don't get WAY intoxicated without having a friend to take care of you who has at least 1 leg in reality. Ask ahead of time if they will keep an eye on you.....

6. 911 is not enough, take a moment to find the nearest hospital and have a map to it. Also it's not a bad idea to find out who to contact in the event of an emergency in your given area. Even a few seconds could mean the difference between life or death.

5 Whether throwing a party, or putting up a small weekend camp...just take a moment to walk around and look for things that might not be so safe. Put tennis ball over stake ends, tie some ribbons to a line so people can see it, tape down electrical chords or tuck them out of the way. Just taking a moment to idiot check your environment with safety in mind can help prevent a lot, and it's really not that difficult.

Safety is really a group effort, so lets all just look out for each other. If you see something that has you concerned, bring it to someones attention. There is no need to be a Nazi about it, but many accidents happen due to complacency.

So feel free to add a few of your own tips, and lets all have a fantastic summer!

This is part 1 in a series of mixes I will be putting up to introduce you to this magical and inspirational sound that I'm sure some of you would have to remember. As the greater scene and what you believed to be goa, like Infected Mushroom, Yahel and many of those others are now going in more commercial clubby /euro trance directions, and indeed, have stopped doing everything that was psychedelic about their music, people have been responding to this by banding towards what originally got them into the music, for alot of people its goa, and for a lot of people they are upset as to why this music stopped happening. Or did it? For alot of people it has never really left, and the spirit is always present, albeit its been masked by darkness or covered in commercial cheese. But in response for to this, actually for some time now there has been a movement to bring back the light.

This is the movement I want to show, as its occurred to me that I should not wait for someone else to do it, as I really think no one else will do it - really, that no one else knows or is involved with this music. Goa trance is back in many ways and is the dominant scene in Belgium, France, Portugal, and small pockets of underground scenes across the world, never having left. I really would like to bring that over here too. Thats why I'll be curious to your responses to this mix and the ones coming. If this music strikes a chord with you I'd love to hear about it, let me know.

Each mix will aim to show a different vibe and homogenous story, I really want to emphasize the many stories the goa melody allows, from earthier downtempo to tripadelic night stuff. Perhaps I should've started with lighter stuff, or perhaps you like it that I got to the point, but Leaf and Sky shows an energetic and exotic kind of daytime sound, lots of sunshine and lots of stomping - this edge really is most unique to the goa tracks being put out today in comparison to the darker stuff from 10 years ago. See the light.

I need to raise $$ asap to buy a new laptop and get serious about making Psy. I'm thinking about selling some of my CD collection. I have a heap of good stuff, from Prog to Suomi. Some cases have tape residue on one end (from when I moved), but that's it. Most have only been played 2-3 times.

Shift (SA artist)

So anyone else want to wax hyperbolic about our man Shift?

I've been a fan of his since buying Red Line back in the day. That whole squelchy, barking lead stuff did the trick for me. The fact that he did a remix of "Closer" by NIN sealed the deal.

I felt like his album "Byte Me" was a bit mixed (and I think it was meant to be that way), but it did have two of my fave Shift tracks evar: "The Rift" and "Dune II".

Alternator was also a bit mixed, though the title tune is about as massive as anything he's done.

What I didn't know is that he's put out so much damn music. I checked Discogs and was shocked to see how many one-off tracks have released on elusive compilations. I spent several hours leeching them in order to catch up. I'm down to 4 or 5 tracks remaining before I have everything he's done.

I'm assuming Shift (and the SA guys in general) aren't booked here because of the flight cost? I did see Artifakt here, and that was great.

BTW has anyone seen Shift or Twisted System live? I'm curious what sort of act they do, how "live" it is, and what sort of liberties they take with the music. Do tell.

One Ticket for free--- Psylent Night Tonight

My friend can't make it tonight and that leaves me with a spare ticket. I'd not like to waste it if someone would like to go tonight. I'll get you in as my tickets are at willcall and I'll be at the shuttle rendezvous between 11:30 and midnight. You don't have to hang with me while there though you're welcome if you'd like to. This'll work good for a group of friends that have a need for one more ticket for a friend tonight. Or just someone that has a spur of the moment desire to go there and have a good time.

New sunrise mix by PARADIGM

Paradigm - 20 cent memory

This is the first mix ive recorded in well over a year. It is suited for that time of morning just as the first rays of sun are begining to break the horrizon. The mix builds from minimal full on, with ever increasing melodies and basslines untill a climatic finish with a gentle let down at the end.
I hope you enjoy this, as this mix is deeply personal for me, as a dear family member passed away while i recording it. As a result, its a live reocrding, with no redos, or studio editing. I felt that i wanted to capture that moment, and preserve it just as it was... thus making this mix all the more special and personal....

For quite a while now we have been brewing this beautiful pot of soup, manifested through family, energy, vibes and happiness. Each artist, dj and creative loving soul adding their own amazing flavor to the broth, awaiting to satisfy even the most hungry of spirits. We are all the spices and tasty morsels that will make this collective gumbo a delicious treat. The pot will simmer. The pot will boil. And Everyone shall rejoice!!

It’s been a dream of ours to have Antix play for us and now it’s going to become a reality . First ever appearance in Los Angeles, Terrakroma and GreenSector are extremely excited to have Antix perform a live and dj set Saturday, November 17th 2007. If you havn’t seen the brothers Strom ever play live before, then you will be in for a real treat seeing one of the great old skoolers of Progg do there thang!! Not only are we lucky to have Antix play their live and dj set, but Bluetech will also perform one of his incredible, groovy and extremely psychedelic live sets in the Downtempo stage and also perform his newest project Evan Mark, really nice, groovy techy music. If you didn’t get to see Bluetech play at symbiosis this year, then you should definitely check out his music, and if you did see him, then you know what’s up!

Not only are we lucky to have Antix and Bluetech perform for everyone, we are blessed to have Kiva and Manny from Greensector, and Dai from Psytribe join in on the fun, who are respectively some of our favorite djs in progressive psychedelic and Downtempo in the west coast. And a super surprise appearance from Trevor Wyse (Greensector), one of the main staples in the California psy scene over the past 10 years who will also share some of his Downtempo magic, not to mention one of our favorite’s Treavor from Moontribe . Also of course our resident dj’s Armando, Gabriel and Andrew (Earthbag) who just simply love to love to play their diverse progressive sounds for everyone.

ANTIX

New Zealand brothers Barton and Hayden Strom aka Antix have been producing a sublimely deep minimal groove that has been rocking dance floors accross the globe far and wide. Iboga Records in Denmark got whiff of the Antix sound and promptly signed the two brothers who then produced their landmark debut album “Lull” in 2003 and a couple years later created there second gem of an album “Twin Coast Discovery” both became landmarks on the progressive scene with top notch reviews and support from leading Dj's and fans alike.
Shortly after, Twin Coast Discovery was re-rubbed by a selection of the finest dance floor hooligans and the remix album contains seven remarkable re-edits from the likes of progressive wonder duo D-Nox and Frank Beckers (Vapour, Polaroid), Fitalic (Bedrock) and label mates Freq, Phony Orphants, Sun Control Species, Ohrsten Nors as well a bonus track by the brothers under their alter ego Fiord.
The brothers are aiming to raise the bar even higher this year, with another Antix studio album titled “Wanderers” due in June. The boys always evolving, have taken their sound to the next level, keeping to their Antix roots of deep atmospheres, infectious bass and minimal grooves but this time with a hint of old skool flavor and unleashing a new level of production.

Bluetech

A classically trained pianist and master of the art of software production. Bluetech's love of the melodic and exquisite sense of sound design makes him one of the most ingenius producers today. Bluetech's sound emerges from his custom-built Reaktor instruments and software based synthesisers as a primordial electro-dub alchemy. While encompassing musical touches from different parts of the globe, he presents a total blend, crossing genres and borders.
Bluetech has created a label called Native State Records to release his own music and music from other artists who cross boundaries between ambient/chill and more idm/experimental sounds. Not content to stay at home, Bluetech has toured extensively and performed in Japan, UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Croatia, France, Denmark, Mexico, United States, and Canada.
Bluetech has released two albums on Aleph Zero Records, an internationally acclaimed chill label run by recording artist Shulman, and is currently working on a third for release in 2008. Aleph Zero brought Bluetech's music to the attention of the international chill audience, and helped to launch his career worldwide through strong support and beautiful packaging. Stay tuned for the next chapter!
